NegotiationI am currently interviewing for a position that I believe offers me a chance to not only provide for my family but to provide a service that improves peoples lives who really need the help. I do want to state that I am currently employed but outsourced on a contract that may or may not be renewed this year. With that said the COO stated in the a phone conversation after my first interview that this job is bugeted 6K less than I'm making now. If I take the job I will save 3K up front in less fuel consumption and no local rita taxes and the COO stated I would get a 3% increase in January. The increase in January makes the the move almost lateral. Does anyone think I should push back and see if they can increase the main offer? The organization is a Non-profit organization and the COO made it clear that they do not have any bonus programs and that this position has a budgeted amount. Thank you in advance for your help. Paladen49 If you'll be receiving benefits along with this offer, you need to add anywhere from 25% to 35% more to the total value of the offer for the dollar value of the benefits, so it should be a far sweeter deal as a full-time employee, assuming you're not getting benefits as a contract employee. Paul W. Barada The Negotiation Expert Thank you for your response. I will take you advise into consideration. I had my second interview today with this company and met the COO. Something I learned from the first interview is the hiring manager expected me to carry the interview with questions. He only asked a view opening questions, then asked me if I had any. I was prepared with about 8 questions and that carried the first interview barely. For the second interview I came more prepared. I had 12 major questions with 12 subquestions the first twelve. I did this because I knew I would be meeting the COO, who is also the HR Manager. I had questions geared to both the Executive Director who is the hiring manager and the COO. As before the Exc.Director opened the conversation by asking me if I had come with more questions. Again thank you for your help. Paliden | |
