Job offer, but awaiting other offers
hey guys, Just wondering what I should do in this situation, but currently I amemployed but i am grossly underpaid for my profession (im talking byabout $18k) and I need to switch jobs before mid april, no matter whatdue to other circumstances. I went for a couple of interviews thesepast few weeks. I got an offer yesterday, however it is at the bottom of my list. However one of the other places I like, called me and asked mysalary range. and they really liked me, but their offer is stillpending. Do I make the call or email and say in a nutshell 'hurry up cause ihave another offer on the table now, but i'd really like to entertainyour offer?' Thanks, I was thinking if this was logical but they sure are slow, partly because the hiring guy is the company purchasing manager and isvery busy. thank everyone! One appropriate way to buy some time would be to ask the people who've already made an offer how soon they need an answer from you while, at the same time, saying you'd appreciate a few days to think about it. But I think you have to live with whatever they tell you. Since you have a job, I think you can afford to wait to see if the offer you'd really rather have comes along, which means you have to live within the time constraints set by the company that's already made an offer - you have to accept it or decline it within the window they establish. In the meantime, I think it's totally inappropriate to try and speed up the decision-making process of another employer under the veiled threat that you might take another offer if they don't get on with it. Depending on how confident you are that you'll get the offer you want, you just might have to decline the offer on the table and suck it up where you are until the right offer comes along.
