Temporary Job Offer

Hi.  I just received a job offer for a temporary job during the current employee's maternity leave.  They want me to start tomorrow.  The salary is hourly and they were upfront about what they wanted to pay.  My question, when I sat down and started figuring things out, I realized another $1 or $2 would really help me want this job.  Is it worth asking for additional money or should I just leave it alone?

Any information would be greatly appreciated.   Thanks for your help.

Are you willing to lose the offer?  If it doesn't matter, then ask for more (politely) and see how it goes.  If not, take what they offer before they move on to someone else.  And if you're working through a temp agency, then you ask the temp firm for more money, not the client.

Given the fact that this is clearly a temporary job, and assuming you want it at all, I'd take the offer and do the best job I could because it might lead to a permanent job offer if you knock their socks off in terms of your overall job performance.  At MOST, I think you might casually ask if the salary offer is negotiable and see what they say.  If it's not and I wanted the job, I'd take it.  If the offer is negotiable, and if you're asked what salary you have in mind, I'd say I was hoping for a salary in the $X to $Y range, which could be a range that represents their offer plus a buck on the low end and their offer plus two bucks on the high end.  I really depends on whether or not you want the job and the chance to be offered a full-time job based on your performance.
