Job description changed after initial sa
I'm in the process of changing industries and was offered a Branch Manager position the description said it was for a single office. During the first interview I was asked about salary and gave what I thought a fair range would be. During the second interview I was told the job was for that office but I would also oversee a second satellite office of the same size on the other side of town. Researching similar jobs and responsibilities I found my original salary range is 5-8K less than average. Is there a polite way of asking for more than what I first said without looking foolish for not knowing all the details of the job by the second interview?
There's no way you could have known about the extra duties associated with the satellite office after the first interview. The better approach, in my opinion, assuming an actual salary offer has been made, is to politely ask if the offer is negotiable in light of the fact that the job includes more responsibility than you originally thought. If it isn't, you'll have to decide how much you want the job that's been offered at the salary stated. If it is, and you're asked what salary you have in mind, you can counter with a higher range, but I doubt that you're going to get a $5K to $8K increase in light of the fact that you're changing industries and one must assume there's going to be some sort of learning curve associated with the change. I think you could counter with a range that's $3K to $5K higher based on your more complete understanding of the actual job responsibilities, but not on the basis of what some external salary survey says jobs like this one should pay.
