Consulting to Full TImeHi: I have been consulting for this company since 4 years. Now they want to hire me as a full time employee. There are two managers who are looking to hire me on two different projects.(I had worked for both previously) How can I use my situation to get best out of this offer? Also by how much % can I increase my Salary requirments compared to what I am getting right now? Has anyone been through this kind of situation before. Does someone have any good tips for me? Thanks Ananth Generally speaking, when a consultant is hired as a full-time employee the salaries usually go down, not up, because as a full-time employee they start receiving benefits which can be worth anywhere from 25% to 35% of their salary. If you've been receiving benefits - which would be odd - you could be in a position anticipate a salary increase anywhere from 5% to 15%, depending on the situation. Since both jobs are within the same company, I think you're also in an ideal position to wait and see what the actual offers turn out to be before making a decision. If it turns out that you really do have a preference of one job over the other and the job you prefer doesn't pay as well as the job you like less, you could always make it clear to the person offering the job you'd like, that you really would like to accept his/her offer, but that so-and-so over in such-and-such department is offering $X. My presumption - and I think yours should be, too - would be that the two managers who want to hire you will talk to each other and will know what the each can offer so, from your perspective, I think you have to be totally honest in your negotiations. On the other hand, if the job you'd really prefer offers the higher salary, take the job! Hope this helps. Paul W. Barada The Negotiation Expert | |
