Yearly Review Update

I was all set to use the good advice you gave me in my yearly review, however, my boss beat me to the punch. He saw that my abilities were not being utilized properly and is expanding my job significantly. smile

My question is this: should I be prepared to negotiate a new salary? Salary hasn't been mentioned yet. We meet next week to finalize my specific new duties (which are pretty substantial). Should I expect to see salary info then? Should I wait for the boss to toss out the first number? Where do I start with this?

Thanks!

I think you have two options.  First, see if the boss brings it up or, second, if he doesn't, politely ask if there will be an adjustment in your salary based on the new responsibilities. I wouldn't try to negotiate more at this point - either way - regardless of the amount of the increase in compensation.  I think you have to do the job for a while before really knowing if the increase adequately compensates you for the added responsibilities.  So, whatever the increase is, I don't think you should attempt to negotiate more until you can show that your performance in the job warrants more.  Make sense?

Makes sense. Thanks.
