Multiple Job OfferReceived and accepted a verbal offer last week with Company A. Also recieved offers from Company B & Company C over the last couple of days. I turned down Company B- and told Company C I needed 48 hours to think it over. I really want to work for Company A- that's why I accepted. HR has inquired about additional references- which is a good sign. I am just waiting on the written offer- which, according to the person I interviewed with-is being processed. We have gone over particulars such as a starting date. Should I call off the job search? Is the verbal offer good enough? Thanks.
Only you can really judge how comfortable you are with a verbal over a written. Personally, I would not call off the search- maybe keep company C at bay a little longer.
You've accepted A, you want to be at A, why keep looking? Tell C thank you but no.
Tess If you want job A, call off the job search. The verbal offer you accepted is good enough. Just because you get an offer letter doesn't make the offer from A any more binding on either party than a verbal offer. I see no reason not to politely withdraw yourself for further consideration by B. Frankly, that would be the professional thing to do at this point. Paul W. Barada The Negotiation Expert Thanks for all your help. The writtten offer for company A came via email yesterday. This is my first full-time sales position. Any advice that will be helpful? Books/articles I should read? Thanks. Death of a Salesman? (ok, that was a joke). Browse the book store or Amazon or Barnes & Noble online. There are a million of them. My husband is a big fan of Zig Ziglar but I'm sure everyone has their favorites.
Good luck! Tess Hop on Amazon.com and see what you can find. There are a ton of great books on how to sell ice to Eskimos! The other thing to do is talk to some people who sell for a living and see what they can share with you. Hope this helps. Paul W. Barada The Negotiation Expert | |
