Unsure of what I can expect

I have worked in HR for approximately 7+ years in administrative positions more or less.  My professional background spans different arenas, banking, education, and consulting firms. I am presently working as a Customer Service Supervisor and will have completed both my graduate certificate in HRM, as well as a Master of Science in Leadership this summer.  Will my previous roles limit my monetary prospects?  Is asking for 75K considered inappropriate if I have not worked prior in a higher supervisory role within HRM (although, I have worked in the capacity of a Budget and Personnel Manager within an academic department at a university)?

I think 75k is completely out of line.

Maybe for a union based company, but you don' t qualify for that.

I don' t think 75k is feasible for a new HR manager and you would have a better shot staying on the business side, in customer service management etc. to demand that sort of salary.

As a new HR Manager in a company of 1000 or less over 0-200 employees, you are likey to start in the upper fifties. At least in my area of the country.

How did you come up with $75K?  Frankly, for the type of job you' ll be seeking, it sounds way too high.  Furthermore, my expectation would be that as you move through the interview process you' ll be offered a salary, not asked how much you expect to be paid.  But even if you are, I think you need to come up with a salary range that realistic for you in terms of your  income requirements.  With no disrespect intended, and based on what you wrote, I' ll bet you haven' t been earning a salary that' s close to $75K thus far.  That' s not to say it won' t happen - it probably will, but I think you have to get your foot in this new door with a salary range that encompasses your actual income needs.  Stating that your anticipated salary is $75K isn' t going to keep you in the running for many jobs in HR.  I' d re-think the salary range I needed to be in to pay the bills, not the salary the salary range you hope to be in a few years from now.

"Is asking for 75K considered inappropriate if I have not worked prior in a higher supervisory role within HRM "

I think yes, it's unrealistic, since you do not have that specific experience. You may get to that salary, but you will have to work your way up to get it....
