Give notice boss is on vaction!
I have been offered a great job, but my boss just left for a one week vacation. He is a co-owner of the company, and I have very little contact with the other owners. There is no one else at a highter level than me. Should I only give one week notice when he gets back? This isn't going to be a usable reference for me anyhow - I have worked my butt off, but the boss is the type that is never happy. I already have co-workers that will speak for me if I need them in the future, Thanks in advance for your help!
If the situation were reversed and you were the employer, how would you feel about an employee who only gave a week's notice? Are you working on anything major for your current employer? Take those two things into consideration. Give two-week notice to the other co-owner. He probably has the authority to get a job search started and can also probably get in touch with the other co-owner. Or, give two-week notice when he returns if you can start your new job in three weeks. Without writing the same thing over again, I'd do exactly what Chet recommended. Paul W.
