Good offer but not enough

I just got an offer for consulting as experienced analyst for $68K plus sign on bonus of 3000.   It is my first job out of graduate school and prior to this I worked for about 5 years in a different type of job so it is a career change.  I have had one summer of consulting experience.

I do realize that as experienced analyst , 68K is fairly competitive, but my previous job before school was $65K plus stock options  and my summer internship in consulting was paid at a rate of 71K.  Should I negotiate based on these figures?- that after my two years of graduate work my salary should have increased more than just $3000.

However I keep telling myself that I am at the position of career change so I should not expect a huge increase.  realistically, I do not have much consulting experience yet.

Any advice is appreciated!

I think you answered your own question in your last paragraph.  You don't have a lot of experience and you're changing fields.  If I were you, I'd take this offer in a heartbeat.  I wouldn't ask if the offer is negotiable or anything like that.  What you want, in my opinion, is to get your foot in the door and demonstrate what you can accomplish.  I would not, in other words, put this offer at risk by trying to negotiate more.  Accept this offer and prove, through your performance, that you're worth more!  Seriously, don't screw this up by letting pride or greed get in the way of a great career opportunity!

I agree.  Take the job quick before they change their minds!
