WeirdI have been laid off since March. I applied on-line for a position (Executive Asst) Monday, week before last. First thing the following morning Tuesday, I received a call from that company asking me to come in-that same morning-for an interview. At the interview, I was informed there were four admin positions available. I was surprised when I was told the starting salary--which is 20k higher than what I was making at my last job, the benefits started immediately and there was not wait time for being vested. I was asked to a second interview (with 3 other EA's with whom I would be working) that same afternoon but was sent home because the interviewer was unable to coordinate the second interviews. First thing the next morning Wednesday, I was called and asked to a second interview later that day. I met with each EA individually for about 20-25 minutes--I was there almost two hours. I thought the interviews went well and asked when they were looking to fill the position and was told "yesterday". To my dismay, I saw all the positions reposted last week. I called the company to follow-up and they informed me that a decision had not been made. I am wondering if I did something wrong?? Was I too eager? Should I have acted as if I had other things to do? Or am I being impatient?? Thanks You're probably being too impatient. Being eager certainly isn't a sin and there's no way to know if you did something wrong. It may be that somebody higher up in the organization has requested that they see who else might be out there who might be an even better match for the job, or there could be a hundred other reasons for the delay. It sounds like the people with whom you talked are very anxious to fill the position, but for reasons beyond our ability to know, they're apparently still looking and/or considering who will be the best fit for the job. If I were you, I'd wait until next week, assuming you haven't heard anything, and then call and politely ask about the status of your candidacy. Zat help? Paul W. Barada The Negotiation Expert
Yes it does help. Thanks. This is the first time in a long while that I have looked for a job without being employed and I guess I am a little antsy.
Where did you see the job "reposted"? For newspaper ads, you may buy one or two weeks worth of advertising in advance so even if you have some good candidates the first week, the ad continues to run. If it was on their website, it could be that some IT guy just hasn't gotten around to taking that posting down. No need to panic... yet. Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. I saw it reposted two weeks after I interviewed. It was on the same job board where I orginally found it. To date, I still have not heard from them.
OK, it's been two weeks since your original post. Either today or on Monday, call the person with whom you've had the most contact and politely ask about the status of your candidacy, casually mentioning that you've seen the same position re-posted on the same job board. You're either still in the running or your not, or they're moving forward slowly for other reasons. If I were you, I'd ask them if they could let you know one way or the other - whether you're still in the running or not - because you don't want to be an annoyance and keep calling. Zat help?
