salary inqueryCan anyone tell me if the empolyer is allowed to check my salary history? And advice is welcomed. Thanks Yes. A potential employer can ask your references anything they want... job performance, use of drugs/alcohol, skills knowledge, absenteeism and tardiness, pay rates, etc... Whether a reference answers any of those questions is up to your former employer's policies. They could also just ask that you bring in previous years' W-2 forms. Sure! But only with your permission. Most employers, however, will not disclose salary information on former employees, so most of the time prospective employers will ask YOU to provide a recent pay stub or a copy of your W-2. You can always refuse to give your permission to do a background or salary check or provide proof of your salary, but the employer doesn't have to hire you, either. Paul W.
