Reasonable to ask for more

I recently had a performance review and was given a 7% raise on my previous base salary of $130k.  This is what most people would consider a very good raise, but I had something like 10% in mind, as we all (myself and my management) agree that this was a VERY good year for me in terms of what I did for the company.  Would it be reasonable for me to negotiate for something better or should I consider myself fortunate to have gotten 7% when most people are lucky to get 3% and leave it at that ?

I'd say a 7% raise is almost unheard of these days, and many companies have stopped giving merit raises--period. They give a 3% raise if you did a great job, and call it a COL increase. If you've done a good job, you'll get less.

IMHO, you should be thankful and keep quiet! And realize that the raise they gave you does indeed reflect their appreciation and recognition of the outstanding work you've done. Geez, even back in the "good old days," 7% was considered a fair, if not giddy, amount....

Chances are they probably gave you the max they could, but could it hurt to ask for a coupl eof extra comp days? Maybe an extra paid company trip in an exotic location....

No, I actually don' t think it' s reasonable to ask for more.  At $130K you' ll be receiving slightly more than a $9K increase.  Personally,  I would not want to rock this particular boat and run the risk of appearing greedy instead of grateful.
