Salary RangeI received an offer from a company after finding our their salary range +/- 10k. The top salary was still 1k less than I was making at my previous employer and the commission plan is about the same except for capped bonus. The initial offer is closer to the bottom end of the scale. What is my best approach for getting the top end of the hiring range? I don't have previous exp. in this particular industry but have proven record in different field, comparable in sales? Start by politely asking if the offer is negotiable. If it is, counter with a salary range that's closer to the salary your were earning before, but the key is being able to point to relevant experience, training, skills, past job performance, and education you have that will make the JOB worth more to the employer with you in it. If the offer isn't negotiable, then it's simply a matter of how badly you need this job or if you can pass and continue your job search. Paul W. Barada The Negotiation Expert | |
