Subtle ways to leave your employerI am facing a conundrum. I recently started a position (about two months) that was a big step backwards for me, but I took it in order to keep the lights on, etc. Well, I have been offered a position with another employer that I was interviewing with several months ago at a much higher salary and stature than I currently enjoy. While I am greatful for the salary I have, it is hard to turn down the $$. Is there a graceful way to inform my current employer that I will be moving on to the other position? The industry I work in is not really that large and I do not want to burn any serious bridges down the road. I do feel bad about leaving, but, it is eminent. I will need to make a decision before the end of this week. There is no "subtle" way of doing it, just a courteous and professional way. Meet face to face with your employer and explain that you have been offered a position that you applied for previous to starting at your current job. Explain that for financial reasons, you really can't turn this job down and that you are giving your notice to resign. You can also say that it is more in line with your professional goals. Apologize for your decision and move on. I agree, just be honest about it, but clear about your decision to move one. | |
