Take new offer

Hi all, I would like some advice about a change from my current job of 20 years to a (new) start up company.

Long story made short, I joined a mom and pop in 87, made it up through the ranks from delivery etc to now warehouse manager. 5 years ago they sold out to a corporation from out of state, agreeing that the son was left to be in charge.  We all no what happens after 2-3 years, the son and  others were fired without warning one Friday. Since then it has been a very different company and is changing major vendors for our customers to a brand that does not have a good impression in this town.

The original mom and pop, (and son) are now invigorated into reforming a new company in the same business authorized again back with the major vendor we had for over 20 years and is liked by our customers  They have offered me the same position in the new startup compny.  This new company has plenty of  potential as the owners name is well respected in this medium sized town in the southeast and is well funded.  I really want to work for these people as they always treated employees well and made customer service the first thing in our motto, which to me I agree, I did allot of that and enjoyed it.  The new mgmt does not execute this now, although they claim to.

I have a meeting scheduled with the former owner and he has asked me to bring my current pay scale.   I guess my question is, if I am one of the very few who were included in the new startup company, what is my position here.  I want to leave and work for them again but I have to temper that with real world things like benefits which are very good now at a place I'm not very happy going to every morning but can tolerate.  I thank God I have a job at least and kind of realize this posting is childish as allot of folks would take my current job in a minute.

Thanks.

If you plan on sticking around with the startup, bear in mind that over 90% go out of business within five years.

Good luck.

I appreciate how you feel.  Nevertheless, I think you have to also look out for yourself, because you're talking about starting up a new company all over again, just like you did 20 years ago.  At the very least I think you should expect it to be a lateral move in terms of salary and benefits.  If you're willing to do that, fine.  Than you probably should say that  you're willing to make the move for the same benefits you now have and a salary that's at least 10% to 15% more than you're earning with your present employer.  You obviously have a ton of experience, since you helped start the original company in the first place, and that should have value to the folks who're interested in you - and they should realize that, too.  Either way, I'd be inclined to make the move, the question you have to answer is what sort of salary and benefit package you want to make it.  Hope this helps.
