salary range
I had an interview and was told they wanted to make me an offer. When the phone call came they told me they were offering me the position but wanted me to give them a number I had in mind. I gave them an amount and the person on the phone said he didn't know the salary range for the position. The following day I got the call that I had the job and the salary that I had asked. I accepted the position verbally and have been waiting for the packet to arrive in the mail to sign. Now I still don't know the salary range. Not sure if I should call the manager to find out the range or contact the recruiter and have him find out for me. I'd like to know where I stand in the range. It sounds like a great job, just disappointed the recruiter wasn't up front about this part of the process. You know the salary. You told them what you wanted and they said OK. Just wait for the offer package to arrive. if you don't see it within a week of them saying they would send it, go ahead and call. If you have spoken to the hiring manager directly, call him and not the recruiter. The recruiter is not "not being upfront" about the process. There's nothing for him to do except collect his check for placing you. I agree with Chet: You stated a desired salary, they agreed, you accepted. That's pretty much all there is to it. If you want to know the range for the job you accepted, I'd wait until I was on the job a couple of months before asking for the range, until you've gotten to know some people, and until you can casually ask what the range is of someone who you've gotten to know who would know what the range is. Did they tell you they would be a written salary offer forthcoming? If they did and you still haven't received it by the end of this week, I think it would be fine to call the manager to politely inquire about the status of the offer letter materials. Paul W.
