Negotiation processThis is for my friend. She had interview and the Hiring manager called her back for offer. She is currently making 45,000. He asked her she want and she told him 57,000. He said that he will get back with her that he had to negotiate with HR b/c the position doesnt pay that much that they could possibly create higher position for her. He was supposed to get back with her before last friday. The discussion was on last week monday and till today he hasnt call back. She is a little worried. what should she expect? she called her last friday and left a msg and today monday still no callback. She really want the job with the company any ideas? advise? Tell your friend to be patient! There could be a hundred reasons why she hasn't heard back yet. All sorts of things could have come up that have taken precedence over the development of a different position for your friend. Besides it's only been a couple of days! If your friend hasn't heard anything by the end of the week - Friday - I think it would be fine to make a polite call to the person with whom she's had the most contact to inquire about the status of her candidacy. Furthermore, had I been your friend, I would have proposed an anticipated salary RANGE, not a specific amount. Had it been me, I would have said my anticipated salary was negotiable within he $50K to $55K range - personally, I think expecting a $12K jump was probably a little steep, especially since your friend was told the position doesn't pay that much!
