salary requirements vs posted range

A potential employer asked me to forward my salary requirements to him after our second interview.  The job was posted on a job board with a salary range incluced (70 to 80k).  The question is: Do you think the potentail employer has more room than the range they posted?  The interview went very well and the decision maker was very impressed.  He in-as-much said that he wanted me.  He is also aware I have other options I am looking at.

That's extremely difficult to say, and were I to suggest an answer to your specific question, it would only be a guess.  I think you have to take the posted salary range at face-value - so to speak - and assume that it's their actual range.  It really depends on the company and their internal philosophy about budgeting salaries.  I suppose it's possible that if a fabulous super-star came along, somebody could seek authorization to adjust the budgeted range to attract somebody like that, but whether that's so in this case or not is anybody's guess.  Sorry...
