Job Offer
As an executive assistant for over 25 years my last job paid$24hour. I resigned my position after the company moved and mycommute was 1-1/2 hours. I have been offered a position in arehab facility working for the vp of nursing for $16hour. I wouldreally like the job but feel $16 is too low for my skills andexperience. I would feel comfortable at $17hour. Whatshould I do? I do not need medical benefits. Vacation would be 2weeks but 401K would not start for 1 year and private company does notcontribute. The problem here is you're overqualified for the job. Therefore, I think it's unlikely that you're going go be offered a much higher salary for skills and experience the job doesn't require. Nevertheless, I think you can still politely ask if their salary offer is negotiable and see what they say. If it is, you could counter by saying you were anticipating an offer in the $17 to $20 per hour range. But I also think you have to be able to point out specifically why this particular job will be worth more to the employer based on relevant skills, experience, training, and education that match the requirements of that job.
