Salary mistakeI gave the recruiter my salary requirement without doing any research. Currently, I' m so underpaid (73K) for a senior programmer analyst (oracle pl/sql/c/unix) with 7 years of experience. That' s why I accepted a job offer of 80K. Since you' ve already accepted the job, I don' t think you can go back now and ask to re-negotiate the salary. What you might be able to do is ask for a performance and salary review in six months and see what they say. If they agree to the review, you should have plenty of time to prove what you can accomplish and justify asking for an increase. Actually, I don' t think you should feel too bad about the increase. Normally, the rule is it' s not worth switching jobs unless the salary is at least 10% to 15% higher than you were earning - and at $80K you' re right at a 10% increase. Indeed, you have accepted this offer and it is kind of late to enter a salary negotiation. What' s to negotiate? The contract you have signed or the initial agreement? I had this problem myself and I was told that it was I who had been wrong. Because I didn' t do any sort of researching the company or in the field to see normal ranges of salaries. This being done, I have asked for a re-evaluation after three months and I got it. After this (the evaluation was positive, I deserved to get more), I have filled in a request and I got the raise. | |
