Current Salary mandatory to apply

I just applied to a pharmaceutical company for a posted position.  They only accept on-line applications and current salary and requested salary are required fields in order to get through the application process.  First time I' d seen that!  Kind of weakens the bargaining position later.

My best advice is to you is to be completely honest.  DON' T LIE !!  Many companies are now requiring income verification - W2' s to confirm your salary.  I know this from experience.  Let them know that you are underpaid in your current position and would like to be compensated according to your skills and qualifications.  Talking about salary is never easy but HONESTY is the best policy !!

There' s nothing odd about salary information being requested.  Be honest about the information you provide.  Furthermore, there' s nothing odd about being asked to state what your most recent salary is, and putting down an anticipated salary range in which you want to be.  If you could do it in a cover letter, I' d write, "My present salary is $X, but my anticipated salary is negotiable within the $Y to $Z range."  $Y ought to be at least 10% more than you' re earning now, and $Z ought to be at least 15% more than you' re earning now.  Companies ask for the anticipated salary information many times as a way to screen out applicants who' s salaries are no where near the budgeted range for the position to be filled.  If you were earning $60K and you expect to be paid at least $66K to $69K or $70K, which you reasonably should expect, and the employer' s budgeted range is between $40K and $50K there' s probably not much point in setting up an interview that will ultimately just waste everybody' s time.
