got an offer, but not happy. Please help

I need help here!

Got an offer, by a company that has been pursuing me for months. When I first interviewed for the job, they told me that the salary would be in the 100K, so I had my head set on that. I was making in the 85K with bonus and all. They offered me 75K  base plus bonus ( around 15K) .   How do I negotiate  my salary without scarring them off. I have no experience in negotiation.  I bring years of experience in the business and multilingual skills that are crucial to them.

Thanks

Start by politely asking them if their initial salary offer is negotiable and see what they say.  If it is, and you' re asked what salary you have in mind, counter with a range that at least 10% to 15% more than you were earning before.  Say something like, "I was anticipating an offer in the $X to $Y range," and see what happens, but I also think you have to be prepared to state with some specificity why the job will be worth that much more to the employer based on things like your experience, skill, training, past job performance, and education.  Point out your years of experience and multi-lingual skills as at least two components of why the job will be worth more to the employer with you in it!

Thanks for your reply. Should I contact them by e-mail or call them. I feel I have more leverage by writing to them.

I recommend calling, not e-mailing.  An e-mail precludes listening for tone of voice, nuance of meaning, hesitations, or the opportunity to talk back and forth in real time.
