New Biz Dev Role Negotiating EquityIt sort of depends on the salary you' ll be offered to do this particular job. If the salary is a motivator as proposed - in other words, if it' s high enough - I wouldn' t expect to get an extra piece of the pie. On the other hand, you might be able to negotiate a small percentage of the net profit earned by the acquired company during the the first year or so. But I wouldn' t expect more than a one-time fee for helping bring about the acquisition, joint venture, or whatever. You job is going to be helping others decide whether or not to invest somebody' s money in another company, so it' s not quite like taking the risk yourself. So, depending on what' s proposed, you might be able to negotiate a one-time fee based on the net profit, not gross sales, of the company you help acquire, partner with, or that becomes a joint venture. In other words, whether or not you earn a 2% or 3% "fee" for helping make the deal happen will depend on the bottom-line success of the new company. Make sense? Im going to be moving to a new job in my current company where I will be looking at new business ventures for the business to explore. Im wondering if it is common to negotiate some form of equity or % of sales etc. in any new business I help develop. Lets say one of the opportunities I look into turns into a joint venture with an established company, or even an acqusition, is it common for the individual in my role to get a peice of the pie? if so - how? What should I be negotiating/asking for when i go through the job interview process? | |
