Should I ask for a RaiseI just accepted a new position and I would like to ask for a 3% raise. The problem is raises are never given around here. I don' t want to ruin this job, but i have been here 3 years and have not received a pay increase as of date. I'm confused--are you new to the company, or have you been there 3 years, or in the same company in a new position? That makes a difference. In a new position, you can't really negotiate a raise unless you've done something particuarly outstanding. If you've been there 3 years without a raise, yeah, might as well ask. In a new position in the same company, it's a toss up whether you still have to prove yourself, or your senority makes a case for a raise. Here' s what you should do: Prepare a bulleted list of your ACCOMPLISHMENTS (not duties or responsibilities) and politely request a performance appraisal from your boss. Tell your boss what you have done for this company and why you have earned a raise. The decision to comply with your request is up to your boss after hearing all the facts! You would be much better off copying and pasting this message to another Forum on this Site where this subject is dealt with constantly. Thanks everyone for your advice. Much appreciate. Sorry if i posted this on the wrong thread. I searched through the treads, but found none. I going to guess that you' ve accepted a new position within the same company. If that' s true and you were offered the same salary, I think you can politely ask if that salary is negotiable and see what they say. We have to presume that the new position isn' t just a lateral move for you in terms of responsibility and duties. But even if it is, I don' t think it would hurt to ask if the salary is negotiable and, if you' re asked what sort of increase you have in mind, I' d say I was anticipating an increase within the 3% to 5% range.
