Possibly blacklisted

I was wondering if anyone knew how to find out if you have been blacklisted by a company.

I used to get all sorts of phone calls for job interviews but now I receive none.  I am concerned that the company I used to work for is making it hard for me.

I really need to reenter the workforce and I can' t get anywhere with any of my applications.  I am qualified for the positions I am applying for.

Any answers????

If you' re not getting calls for interviews, then there is a problem with your resume and/or the types of jobs you' re applying for.  There' s no potential employer that is going to call up your last employer to check up on you before they even do a phone screen with you.  That sort of check is done towards the end of the process, not the begining.  Likewise, your last employer doesn' t have time to call up every company you might want to work for and sink you before you even apply.

So, post your resume over on the resume board (minus name, phone, address) and get some good (free) advice on it.  Also list in that post what sorts of jobs you' re looking at.

If you left your last employer on bad terms, you' ll have to deal with that in the interview process.  Post that story (the short and sweet version) on the Interview Tips board and you can get some good input on how to word that in the best light (assuming there is a best light).

Aside from the fact that "blacklisting" is illegal, as a practical matter, how could it be done?  It just doesn' t make sense that one former employer is going to go to all the trouble to contact every other employer in your field and try to keep you from getting hired - things just don' t work that way.  You may need some help with your resume or job search skills, but blacklisting went out with high-button shoes.

Thank you for your response.  I find it odd that all of a sudden I just don't receive calls for interviews.  I will post my resume and see if someone can help me out.  Thank you.

Along with what Tess and Paul said, there could be other reasons, especially if you were getting calls in the past.

The industry that you are in may be suffering a downturn or hiring season (e.g. Jan/Feb or Sept/Oct) may have ended and there are more candidates than there are jobs.
