How do I ask for greater salaryI' ve been offered a position and a relocation package (from Dallas to Connecticut). The salary they' ve offered is $58k; however, research shows that the base salary/ cost of living in the market to which I' d be moving is $67k (25% percentile)/ $75k for median. What' s the proper way to negotiate a higher salary? Thank you!! What/where is your research, and how does $58k relate to what you are now making, and where in CT are you talking? That in itself will make a difference. If you are a one-income family, you will barely be able to live on $58k along the southern coastal area, unless you have zero debt. If you're in Hartford, that's different.... I don't think there's enough information here to assess. In addition to what Anne Marie wrote, I think you have to do your own research on the differences in the cost of living between Dallas and wherever you' re moving in Connecticut. Call the local Chamber of Commerce and ask them for local utility rates, taxes, housing, etc., etc. and compare their data with what it' s costing you now for the same things in Dallas. The proper way to negotiate a higher salary is on the basis of how well your qualifications for the job match the requirements of the job - not on what the difference in the the tax rates might be. | |
