Question on when to start new job

I am expecting a formal job offer some time this week. The person who called me before and offered me the job "conditionally" asked me to think about when I would like to start this position. This would entail a move across the county, selling a home etc.  I thought I would say June. Do you think that is to long of a time?

Yes. Two months seems like a lot of time, but I guess it depends on how badly they need to fill the position!

I think you can allow a reasonable amount of time for your move, but would not, personally, try to put off a date so that you can complete the sale of your home. You don't know how long that could take--could be a couple weeks, could be a couple months or more. Typically one moves for a job before one's house is sold, or at least once it's on the market in the hands of a capable realtor. You would arrange for temporary housing. If you company relocates people often it should have a network of realtors or property managers that can place you in short-term, furnished housing.

What I would do is suggest a date maybe a month out--to give you time to resign from your current job (if you aare working now), get your house ready for sale and wrap up loose ends. But explain that you would need time off later on to physically move your stuff once your home sale closes. If taking the time off later is a problem for them, then I would ask about tjhe possibility of a longer lead time before you start.

Don't move your furniture out of  your house, other than any excess things (put them in storage), and price it to sell! (I am a realtor, and have worked with many relocating people, so I have some familiarity with you circumstances, as well as having relocated out of state several years ago.)

Best of luck--it may not be easy, but it is workable!

If I were you, I' d start by explaining that it will take some time for you to move, sell your house,  find another one, and so forth.  Nevertheless, I' d propose a start date of May 1st.  Proposing a June 1st start date might be asking too much.
