Salary offerAfter 3 interviews with a company they have decided they want to offer me a job. I have been dealing for the most part with the department head, who will be my boss. However, during one of my interviews I was asked to meet with the recruitment specialist. She told me how they calculate salary etc. So after the department head offered me the job "conditionally" until after the background check, the recruiter called and said that the job range starts at $106k for people with 8 years of experience. I didn't know what to say exactly because I have 13 plus years of experience. I am not sure now what she was asking or telling me. So I said yes, that would be a good start. My question is, is the recruiter the one that makes the salary offer? Or was she just feeling me out? That salary would be great but since I have more than 8 years experience should I try to get more? Rather than guessing, why don't you just ask the recruiter is she was making a salary offer when she told you the salary for people with 8 years of experience and see what she says? If it was an offer, I'd politely make the point that I had 13 years of experience and if her offer, therefore, is negotiable. However, if an offer was made and you'd otherwise be pleased to accept $106K per year, take it! Never try to negotiate more money just for the sake of negotiating - but it won't hurt to ask and make the point about your years of experience. Paul W. Barada The Negotiation Expert | |
