Going to be made an offerI recently interviewed for a job close to Tucson AZ. The interview went well and so towards the end they told me, they would be sending me some paper work to fill out to check my background, references etc. After they get this back from me and everything checks out (which it will), they will make me an offer. Now, looking at the median income for that area, from some different salary sites, I see that around $50,000 is the norm. The area has a higher cost of living from where I am at now. IF I accepted this position, I would not be buying a home outright, but rather rent. In my curent job, I am very underpaid...this is based on friends, and associates working in the same line of work. In other words, I don't think that I could take my salary and add 10 or 15 % and live easily where this other position is. Given that information, should I be looking at a range closer to the $50,000 average I've been seeing. I know that salary websites are not always accurate, but I would think that if they made me an offer and it wasn't even close to this number, I couldn't do it. I'd appreciate any input, especially from those living in that Tucson area. Thanks, Jamie With no disrespect intended, I don't think there's anything you can do until an actual offer is made. Wait and see what it is. If, for example, it's $35K I don't think there's any way you're going to able to negotiate it up to $50K. On the other hand, if it's, lets say, $45K, you might want to politely ask if the offer is negotiable and see what happens. You're the only who can decide what level of income you'll require and upon which you can make ends meet, so you need to do your own research about what its going to cost YOU to live in Tucson. Why don't you want and see what the offer turns out to be and then come back here? Maybe we can help you decide whether you should attempt to negotiation or not, and if so, for how much. Paul W.
