First interview no salary info

You got a ballpark from HR, so salary has been mentioned. It typically would not be mentioned again in a first interview. If there is going to be a second interview, salary might be mentioned at that time. If they're going to  hire based on 1st interviews alone, the salary "discussion" will be the offer. If you get an offer, make sure you know exactly what's being offered, and for what position with what responsibilities. And don't accept any offer on the spot. Ask to think it over. If you've been reading these boards, a lot of folks have posted that they accepted an offer immediately and are now asking if it's OK to go back and ask for more. And you can't, of course.

As a job applicant, I appreciate when a company states their "ballpark" salary range up front before the first interview. That way, we both know whether we should take up each others' professional time. I have salary requirements (albeit negotiable), and companies have budgets. Hopefully, there's overlap and we can go from there as the interview process and discussions progress. If there isn't any overlap, I think it's best to know ASAP so I -- and they -- can move on.  When a company refuses to discuss a range at any point, I feel like they're just trying to size me up to see whether they can lowball me.

It' s perfectly normal for companies not to discuss salary beyond the initial ballpark figure you were given until an actual job and salary offer are made.  If the ballpark figure or range is really one within or around which you' d be happy to be, all you need to do at this point is continue to present yourself and your qualifications in the best way you possibly can to, hopefully, increase the chances that you' ll be offered the job.  By giving you their ballpark figure, both you and they have hopefully avoided wasting each other' s time if there was never going to be a "meeting of the minds" regarding salary and, as a result, you' re still in the game!  Press on!

I recently had an interview for a position I would love to have!!

When the HR lady initially contacted me, she gave me a ballpark figure, then asked if I was still interested in interviewing.  I replied that I definitely was, so the interview was scheduled.

The interview with the department manager went very well (or so I felt).....so much that afterwards, she said she wanted me to meet her boss!

I felt that they were very interested in me for the position....so why was salary not mentioned?  Is this normal?
