I need advice!
HI! My name is Bridgette. I'm new to the site but I'm not new to some of the situations that many of you share. I used to work as a receptionist for this company but before I started working there, finding a job was really easy. After I left this company of course, It's become detrimental. I feel as though I'm stuck in the Great Depression. I truly feel as though I've been blacklisted. Can anyone offer some advice on how I can find evidence of this possible occurence so that I may prevent it? I would greatly appreciate it! Why would they "blacklist" you? Did you leave on bad terms? If so, it's not blacklisting, it is just that you have a bad employment record (or at least part of it is bad). There are web sites where you can pay to have people check your references but here's what I suggest. Pick up the phone yourself and call the company. Explain you are looking for work and ask what they will say about you. If you were fired or quit without notice, don't even bother picking up the phone... you know what they will say. Try to find someone who can speak as a reference for you and use them. Here's what's probably NOT happening. Assuming you performed well and left on good terms, it's almost unimaginable that a previous employer would intentionally and maliciously lie about you to a prospective employer. Why would anybody do that? On the other hand, if you're performance was not good, or you were fired, or for some other reason you're not eligible for re-hire by a previous employer, and prospective employers are calling and hearing negative, but true, things about some aspect of your performance - that could explain why you're having problems now. On the other hand, you could sue the previous employer if you can prove that somebody there is intentionally and maliciously lying about you. Paul W. Barada The Negotiation Expert | |
