Salary Increase QuestionI' m in a position where I have 2 people (project managers) who report to me that perform the same job I do. Obviously, I have some additional responsibilities above them. The company I work for wants to change our reporting structure. I will have 7-8 additional direct reports, but these reports are the people who build the "products" that the project managers are in charge of. I will be responsible for HR related issues like reviews, regular progress check ins and documentation, etc. I think this change is good for the way our company works. I consider this a substantial increase in job duties and that I should be compensated. How do you calculate salary increase for this? And maybe there is no magic number per person, but I need something substantial to make my case. There' s really no "magic formula" or accepted method for calculating a dollar value for your increased responsibilities, although I think you' re perfectly justified in anticipating an increase in compensation. If I were you, I' d be hoping for an increase in salary in the 5% to 10% range and, if asked, that' s what I' d say. If the subject doesn' t come up, I think you can politely ask for a salary adjustment based on the additional duties you' ll be performing and, again, when you reach that point, I' d reply that I was expecting an increase in the 5% to 10% range and go from there.
