Is it too late to ask for more $
I just accepted a job offer. The lady told me the pay they were offereing and I accepted it just like that. I know if I would've said something I could've gotten more. Is it too late to negotiate now. If not, what should I say?
Yes, unfortunately it is too late to negotiate more salary. That's why you should always ask for a day or two to think things over before accepting a job. Yes, I think it' s too late to try and back up to salary negotiations now. The offer was made and you accepted it. It would be very bad form to try and re-open negotiations now. Regardless of whether or not you could have gotten more, the more fundamental question is, "are you otherwise pleased with the job and the salary offer?" If you are, then don' t worry about any money that might have been left on the table. Honor you acceptance and do the best job you can so that in 6 months from now you' ll have demonstrated that you' re worth more to the company based on your overall job performance. The general rule is never try to negotiate more just for the sake of negotiating. Offers can occasionally be lost that way.
I made that same mistake when I went from temp-to-perm and shot myself in the foot. Now, I'm heading into my yearly salary meeting this week and you bet your bottom dollar, I'm prepaired and going in full force with negotiations. | |
