Interview follow up

I had my interview.  They asked me to fill out their application and mail it in.  They had me take their predictability index test.  I wrote my thank-you notes.  That was 2 weeks ago.  I touched base with HR manager today and he says they are interviewing someone else next week and he will get back to me after that interview.  They had told me there were multiple positions.

Did I screw up the interview?  frownIs this a nice way of telling me I have been rejected?  frownShould I follow up with another thank-you note to emphasize my qualifications and continued interest?

It's not possible to second-guess what's going on here.  It may be nothing more than what you were told - that they're interviewing another candidate for the same position.  This sort of thing happens all the time.  About all you can do wait until the end of next week or the first of the following week and make another follow-up call to the same person and politely inquire about the status of your candidacy.  But trying to second guess what's going on probably isn't a very productive exercise.

Sure, you can write a letter of continuing interest
...but do not desperately hope for an answer...for a positive one I mean. I think two weeks it's a little bit too long. If they are interviewing someone else, they should have done it in paralell with you. If there's one thing employers don't need is to waste their time with interviews. As far as I know, they have an interviewing period (1 day to five working days) and then they make up their mind. It's strange, but I'm not telling you to give up. No way. If you want the job, follow up.
