Did I mess it up....

I interviewed for a job 2 weeks ago. They liked me very much. The next day the Company Recruiter emailed me to proceed with the application process. He called me on  Friday and we talked over the phone. I told him I expected atleast 70k plus bonus. He said he will get back to me by the weekend or at most monday.

I waited and he never called over the weekend or Monday. On Tuesday he emailed me to find out if I had filled the application. I responed by telling him that I never heard back. He said they are good with 70k...So it sounded ok. We talked again last Thursday as I had several other questions about the title and my career growth. While talking to him, I found out that they will not mention the BONUS in the offer letter. So then I told him, I am not sure if it will work out then. Moreover I wanted to join at a position higher than what I was offered (one grade higher). I told him that I can contribute much more in that role. I pretty much told him over the phone to be in touch for future opportunities if this does not work out. Well he said, that he will talk to the Hiring Mgr and get back to me. He said he was still very optimistic that this will work out . He asked me if a larger base salary was ok to compensate for the bonus not mentioned in offer. I said that will be fine. He told me to call him back next day by noon.

I called him back next day at 3pm (due to an urgent issue at work)  and left him a message. I left a message that he can contact me back anytime over the weekend or next week.

Well it is now Tuesday evening and he still has not called or emailed me back. I am just wondering if I shoud call him back to check the status (maybe he did not get my message). Or will that show my weakness to him during this negotiation stage. Have I screwed this up ?

I can really do with some advice from all the experts here. Thanks in advance !!

Since you're obviously employed now you're obviously in a strong negotiating position, and as demanding as it sounds like you've been up to this point, I don't think it would hurt your prospects at all to call the recruiter and ask about the status of your candidacy.  My bet would be that other matters have come up requiring immediate attention and have just delayed him getting back to you.  Working with you on this job probably isn't the only thing this recruiter has to do during the course of the day.  If they offer you a higher salary instead of a bonus, take it!  A  bonus is a discretionary benefit that employers choose to offer, not a "right" to which employees are entitled.  And besides, a bonus is a one-time pre-tax payment - not part of your permanent compensation package.  In other words, I would not get hung-up on the bonus issue.  Ultimately, if the company, for whatever reason, isn't making money, nobody will get a bonus.  I think it would be fine to call today and inquire about status of your candidacy.
