taking an offer or not

So, here is my dilemma.   I am looking at switching jobs with the same firm.  the new position may mean me taking a 10k cut.  However, I know it is a good job opportunity.  Plus I am really not happy with my current position.  Just enjoy the paycheck.  Any insight, should money be the determining factor if I should take the offer? devilish

Well, it certainly should one of factors you consider!  The first question to ask yourself is whether you can afford to take a $10K cut or not - if that's what it turns out to be.   If it does turns out to be an offer that's $10K less and you can't afford that size reduction, you can always ask if the offer is negotiable and see what they say.  If it is negotiable and you're asked what salary you have in mind, I'd counter with a range that will enable you to come close to maintaining your financial position or will at least enable you to pay your bills, make ends meet, and come close to being able to maintain your present standard of living.  Other factors to consider include job satisfaction, the chances of moving up within the organization, how much stress there is, and who you're working with, just to mention a few.  Hope this helps.
