I' m applying for a position as an accounting clerk. I' ve never held an accounting job before. I have worked in the front office of a medical clinic, receiving payments and balancing receipts and such, for a year. And before that I worked as a cashier and bank teller, totaling about a year experience there. Also, recently, I' ve volunteered as the treasurer for my kids scout troop. My question is, would this all be considered accounting experience? I don' t want to lie on my cover letter about how much experience I have in this field. Yes, each of your experiences is related and should be included! Try to focus on your accomplishments in each of these roles. For example, as treasurer of a scout troop, did you make any changes that improved how entries were tracked and reported? Did you consistently maintain an accurate record of accounts? Think about the ways your accounting and recordkeeping skills contributed to the organization. | |
