Critique of resumeI am seeking a career change but wanted to highlight my skills and longevit/loyalty to a business. I would appreciate any suggestions you mayhave that would help me get interviewed. I resigned from my job and have been without work for 3 months. I submited my resume in January but have had few responses. PERSONAL OVERVIEW I am seeking a challenging work environment where I can utilize my leadership, communication and organizational skills to meet corporate, consumer and professional goals. I am focused, self-disciplined and able to complete tasks with limited direction and supervision. However, I strongly value a team approach and seek to build on the strengths of individual team members to enhance the quality of service to consumers. I have a strong work ethic, take pride in doing more than what is expected, and learn new skills quickly. I have a lifelong commitment to learning and improving my skills, and I build on successes while striving for excellence. Developing positive relationships with staff and consumers is a high priority. I maintain a positive attitude in my commitment to company goals and am seeking new opportunities for personal and professional growth. I am a dedicated, confident self-starter and my skills would be an asset to any business that is dedicated to quality customer service. SKILLS: Leadership/Supervisory Skills
*Communication/Interpersonal Skills
*Organizational/Time Management Skills
1. Your personal overview is a full paragraph long and says vague things about how great you are. Bluntly, I would replace the whole thing with a short Objective, and bullet points. WITH quantifiable numbers. 2. Why would you use a functional resume? They have been used to cover up unemployment, jail time, etc. Generally speaking, you should always use a chronological resume unless you have something to hide. 3. Again, numbers. If you motivated staff so much, tell how much productivity rose under your leadership. What percent of projects were done on time? Take credit for everything good your staff did. 4. Another good argument for a clear Objective is that it makes it easier for you to know what to include and what not to include. It makes no sense to state that you managed ten employees and in the same resume, state that you managed your own filing and typing. 5. Be prepared to explain in interviews why you resigned from your job without another one to go to. | |
