Are You Using a Targeted ResumeI agree 100% on targeted resumes. I work in logistics as an office manager and pretty much a "Jill of all Trades". One way I have found to achieve targeted resumes is this: Several separate word docs to start. Word doc one main resume (a lot longer than the one you might send)-saved as full resume or something so you know what the content is. Word doc two profile or summary for specific type of job with what you have in the full resume minus what need not be there. Doc 3 and on repeat for specific career goals. When you send your resume or prepping it to send I label them FirstName LastName Company Title.doc.
your idea to have one main document, and then build the others from it is excellent! You can easily copy and paste the related sections to different resume versions as appropriate. Very smart. Thank you for your ongoing contributions That' s what I' m doing during my job hunt becauses I' m applying to several diferent types of jobs where different skill sets are stressed. So far it' s been good at getting me interviews. Another tip is to go to the company' s website or use the job description posting and mimic some of the language they use. If a company is looking for a "multi-tasker" or someone with "strong attention to detail" you can bet those phrases appear in my resume or cover letter.
That' s a great idea to visit an employer' s website to get a feel for their jargon, and mimic the language in your resume. Just be careful not to mimic too much - I' ve seen job seekers use the exact phrases from job postings or employer websites, and that will probably hurt your chances of getting an interview. | |
