Accomplishments
Hi, I will be moving shortly out of state and will be updating my resume. I started my current job just over 2 years ago as a temp and got hired full time. I'm seeing on the boards here a lot of the same advice; highlight your accomplishments, not your job duties. And then after searching through other messages and others' resumes I'm seeing accomplishments like "increased productivity by 30% by (add justification here) ...." So my question is this. How do you state your accomplishments, if you have no idea what the actual percentile is? Naturally I don't want to lie or exaggerate. I plan on changing my entire resume to the same format (highlightingaccomplishments) and I've had a few jobs with very different skill setsand duties. So do I just make up a number that seems realistic to me? I'm really not sure how to move forward. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
Hi Sondheim, I'm glad you're focusing on your accomplishments! If you're not able to get actual performance figures, you shouldn't make them up. Instead, you can talk about anticipated results or outcomes of your work. Also, you can write about the ways in which you contributed in each of your temp assignments - e.g., enabling a project to be completed on time, freeing up a manager to focus on other assignments, developing forms that saved processing time, etc. It's better to include accurate accomplishments than to make up ones that you can't substantiate. Hi Kim, Thanks so much for your response, I know you are incredibly busy here on this site. In a couple of days I would like to post my resume as it is now, and the adjusted, re-formatted one for critique. You have given me some good ideas to start off with, so thanks again! Sondheimfreak | |
