I just cant find a job!!!
Hi jarhead_wife, I'm sorry to hear that you're having a rough job search. It sounds like you might be focusing on sending numerous copies of your resume, but you might have better success if you sent fewer resumes and focused on following up and building rapport with hiring managers. Also, if you take time to learn about the employer (history, goals, mission, competitors, etc.), you will be in a better position to demonstrate your value proposition and prove how you are the answer to their problems. On the other hand, focusing on sending numerous resumes will limit the time you have to spend on quality research and follow up. Your resume also has to be strong and targeted to your desired job. If you're sending to many places, you should customize the resume and cover letter to best fit the opportunity. That might mean one or two minor modifications, or it might mean re-writing major portions of your docs - but the time spent will be worth it when you land more interviews (and a new job!). Feel free to post your current document to this forum for your peers to review. Just remember to remove any identifying information (name, address, phone numbers, email, employer names, etc.) to protect your identity. Best wishes, Kim Isaacs The Resume Expert | |
