Filling out applicationsThe other topic about omitting jobs also talked about job applications, so it got me thinking of my own difficulties with filling those things out. First of all, as I stated in my other post, I am often tripped up with those thing. I always thought it was just a repeat of my resume; now I know it serves a different purpose. So I have a couple of questions: 1. My biggest problem is filling out the education portion! As you can tell from my screen name, I have a Masters degree. However, when filling out this section, I often see the categories listed as: - High School - College - here I assume it's asking for undergraduate info - Technical/vocational - Here I assume this asks for specialized training in a certain job, such as Medical Assistant or Graphic Design or even secretarial school. Am I right on this? Could I use this space to list my graduate program? 2. When filling out Employment History and it asks for job duties, would you just put down what's on your resume? Thanks in advance! Christine Good questions Chris.....I have some anwser for you.
(As you know, all applications are different) but, where you ask about putting your grad school in the tech/vocatinal field, do it! Also, you heard about not leaving something blank? BULL, leave it if you think it so. Those of us with more schooling and work exp. do not need to be troubled wih "applications, however, be carfull there are some good reasons to fil in the blanks. The employer already has your resume, now is a good chance for them to see how well you write. Also, the application is so "sale" and stagnated over the years, I'm surprized some WHIZ HR person hasn't "revamped it". Anyhow, you are too smart to worry about what to out on an application, I sometimes put down "SEE RESUME", at one employers office I was able to deduce that the application wasn;t so different from my resume, so I of course filled in the GOT TOO's like my name phone and you know that stuff...then I asked to speak to the manager and expained to him my thoughts on such a waste of time this is, needless to say I was hired on the spot, I also choose my words with great tact, but I was ready for it, as I have read more books on resumes and interviews than the so called experts. I also have had lots of interviews, just to have an interview. (thats right) I didnt really want the job, just the experience of going through the interview to help prepare for the next one I did want.
strange, but thats me and I am working fulltime
