Immigration QuestionsHello, I am not sure of where to post this question, as I am prettynew to this site. I have recently moved to the U.S. from my homecountry because I married a U.S. Citizen. I have already sent mypaperwork in for a Job Permit which is granted by law since I am nowmarried and a legal alien. However this work permit is said to arriveanywhere from 60 to 90 days after I applied, thus making me unable towork until then. My question is, should I even be putting my Resume out there? Is itin bad taste to have people call me up only so that I can tell them Iam not able to work for another couple of months? Most of the companywebpages I have been putting my resume in (hotels mainly), do not askme when I will be available to work. They do ask me if I can provideproof of legal ability to work in the U.S., which technically I do,however I still have to wait for it to be processed and to arrive tome. I don't want to start my job search by upsetting potencialemployers, but I also do not think it is smart to wait until I have thepermit in hand to start looking since finding a job can take a whileand I already have to bear at least 2 more months without any income. Please advise! Thank you
Hi Domingodo, I think you should start putting your resume out there now. It could take months to find a new position, so the sooner you start, the better. You can include a note that mentions your availability in your cover letter (and add a line to your resume's Qualifications Summary) so you don't upset employers. Wishing you good luck, and please stop by again if you have any resume questions. Best wishes, Kim Isaacs The Resume Expert
