Reason For LeavingWhat is the best way to answer the question about my reason for leaving my previous employer, if the parting of ways was less than optimal. I know that my former manager would give me a good reference, however it was a higher level than him that was the reason I am no longer with the company.
I'm sorry, but you're going to have to give more information. Were you fired? Laid off? What would HR say was the reason if contacted? How about your manager?
I was given the choice of being let go or resigning. Obviously, I chose to resign. HR can only verify the dates of employment and salary. I'm not sure what my manager would say about the parting of ways, but I know he would give me a good reference.
Hi mules, Your reason for leaving would be a resignation. As your manager would give you a good reference, use him as the contact person. Also, check with him to confirm that he knows your official reason for leaving. While you have him on the phone, ask for a written reference -- that will probably come in handy during your job search. Best wishes, Kim Isaacs The Resume Expert
mules, no interviewer will accept the answer of "I was given the choice between resigning or being let go." They will ask what was the specific incident that caused this.
I realize this, but what I was speaking of was filling out the application. I would not give that answer anyway, but just that I resigned. | |
