i am lost and need assistance.
Hi, I really need some help. I have worked in 4 different career tracks and my resume is nice but all over the place in terms of work type. I am finishing up a certification program in a 5th career track and need help transitioning the resume to reflect new career goals. How can I get some help? I graduated with a bachelor's in 2001, and will get certification at the end of this summer. Am I even in the right discussion forum? Help...
Hi drpreston, Yes, you're in the right forum! The best approach to your resume depends on how different the four to five career tracks are. If they are somewhat related (such as transitioning between technology specialties), you can present your experience as usual and just focus on the skills and accomplishments that are most related to your current goal. If the career tracks are very different, then you need to play up your new career credentials, while downplaying unrelated experience. You can do that by breaking up your experience into different sections - one for your current, related positions, and another section for "Additional Experience." You can also call the second section something related to the positions, such as "Management Experience." It sounds like you are completing additional training or certifications related to your new career track, so that needs to be highlighted in your Education section and also added to your Qualifications Summary. You can say that you are pursuing the certification and expect to receive it by the end of the summer (give the month expected). Good luck in your career transition!
