Temp Agencies vs. Temp AgenciesHello, I really need the help of the resume_expert here. I've worked temp assignments since 2004. I wanted to absorb as much software technology, skills and experience, so I decided to temp. Now, on my resume I have a brief gap( a few months), which comes from me attending college. Here's my problem, I've notice that when I interview for a new temp agency, they always want to know the name of the agency. I was told not to list the name of the agency because this is a business and that's their clientele's list. I only list the company I work for. Now, I don't put my temp agency down for references at all, but they always want the name and number of my supervisor while I was working there. My last interview at a temp agency, I refused. I told the woman that i didn't think it would be professional to call my recruiter's client and question them about me. She gave me a dirty look and said, I just need it for reference purposes. I told I have business references. I don't think she like my answer. I haven't heard anything from that agency. 1 Was I wrong to refuse to give the informaton ? Thanks,
Hi Mac, Did you sign a non-disclosure agreement or other type of contract that says you cannot reveal the name of the agency or the companies you worked for? If not, I've never heard of not being able to list the temp agency. Can you contact their main office to find out what you can and cannot say? I think it's important to state somewhere that these were temp assignments, otherwise you could look like a job-hopper. Your interviewer probably wanted a reference from your most recent employment/temp assignment and was frustrated when you didn't provide one. If it's not possible to list the temp agency's contact info, can you prepare a list of other references potential employers may contact? Best wishes, Kim Isaacs The Resume Expert | |
