Listing schools on resume

I got my bachelors degree at a school that obtained university status well after I graduated. IOW, when I attended, it was "MySchool College". Now it is "MySchool University".

So my question is...on my resume, do I list the school as it was known back when I graduated (1995), or do I list it as it's presently known?

Thanks in advance!

Hi MSWChris,

You're not alone - many people ask me how to list the names of schools that have merged with other schools, closed, or changed names. Here's a rule of thumb:

If your degree is fairly recent, consider including both names:

MySchool College (now MySchool University)

If it's been many years and the new name is widely known, you can drop the reference to the old name. You can also check with the college to get their input regarding use of the school name. Your degree is 12 years old, so it's probably best to drop the old name.
