Followup After Application

This is one of those questions I've never gotten a straight answer on. Is it good practice to follow up after sending in a resume? I am referring to pre-call to set up an interview. If it is good to call following sending in your resume how long should you wait and what should you say in this call? Is it a good idea in this call to ask what kind of timeline they are on? Or should all calls be postponed to after you have actually interviewed?

Thanks for helping me to clear this up!

Hi maggieqc,

Yes, it is good practice to follow up after sending a resume. The exception would be if the employer clearly stated that they don't want any phone calls.
The call gives you thechance to build rapport with the hiring manager and present your valueproposition "live," rather than on a piece of paper.
