Title change on resumeWhen i was hired at my current job at an ad agency 2 years ago, I was hired as AAE or junior level account executive. In other agencies, AAE usually means right out of college entry level, but at this job I needed 3 years or more of experience, and I have my own clients and do senior level acct work, plus my salary is that of a full AE. My title comes from a lack of typical structure. When i started job searching, at the suggestion of a recruiter, they told me to change it to AE, as not many places would want to look at me because of being at jr level position for 2 years. My references, including senior coworkers at my current place of employment, all know to say that I am a full AE, and all agree in any other agency AE would be my title given the scope of my duties. I dont lie about my responsiblities or my salary. I hate lying in any respect, and now am very afraid that I may be close to a job offer it may come back to bite me. This is truly a case of a misleading title, and I didnt want to not be seen for a job that I deserve because of a technicality. I've given six professional references, including my past supervisor. In checking references, how likely is it they will call the HR dept (and considering the HR department is out of state as I am in a satellite office, and to them I am just a social security number, and as I said, I have current senior coworkers as a reference.) i was told that usually a title isnt checked, just dates of employment. I did get one such call for a past employee and all they wanted to verify was that she worked there and for how long. Any imput would be appreciated...believe me as soon as I get a job this is the last time i stretch anything on my resume, its not worth losing sleep as i have been. Thanks!
